The Scapegoat [01 Jun 2006|11:47pm]

[ mood | excited ]

I just finished watching the 1959 film The Scapegoat, based on the Daphne Du Maurier of the same title.

Oh. My. Word.

Needless to say I adored it. Especially since it contained one of my favorite film relationships, the father/daughter relationship. Oh, and Bette Davis is in it. And Alec Guinness plays two characters.

Also, if you've ever wanted to see Alec Guinness eat a strawberry out of the mouth of a beautiful woman, this is your movie. Not something I ever expected to see, but definetly a welcome sight ;).

An introduction [14 Mar 2006|11:35am]

It makes me really happy to find a Sir Alec community that is just dedicated to Star Wars!

I thought I might introduce myself, I am a college student who adores Alec Guinness.
That is about all there is to it, I have seen every film of his I can get my hands on, and have read all of his books.
The first Alec Guinness film I saw was Kind Hearts and Coronets very late on tv, then I saw The Man in the White Suit which is the film that really made me a fan. I can't even come close to choosing a favorite film of his, in my opinion they are all wonderful, I do love his work with Ealing Studios though, as well as The Bridge on the River Kwai which is what really made me appreciate him as an actor, and not just a comedian.
Blessings in Disguise is my favorite book, I highly recommend it to anyone.
I also am a big fan of Sir John Gielgud and Sir Olivier as well, I love that entire generation of British actors, Sir Guinness shall always remain my favorite.

A bit of news: the Criterion collection of Kind Hearts and Coronets has a special and rare 70 minute interview of Alec Guinness, I watched it and it was very informative, I don't think I have ever seen him as. . .himself before!

Nice to meet you all.

Has anyone read Alec Guinness: The Authorized Biography? Or how about My Name Escapes Me, Blessings in Disguise, or A Positively Final Appearance : A Journal, 1996-1998?

Any other books by/about him to recommend?

Welcome to all new members!

To get the ball rolling again...what was your introduction to Alec Guinness?

I'd have to say mine was either Star Wars or Lawrence of Arabia. Probably the latter. However, the first movie I watched where I really appreciated what an amazing actor he actually was was The Ladykillers

Welcome to the Sir Alec Guinness fan community!

I've been a fan of Alec Guinness for...actually, not for very long lol. I only began to appreciate his incredible talent after watching several of his movies in the course of a few weeks, each time going "Wait...that's Alec Guinness?!". He buried himself so thoroughly in each role that I didn't recognize him!
The Alec Guinness movies I have seen so far:
Lawrence of Arabia
Star Wars
The Bridge on the River Kwai
The Ladykillers

The Ladykillers is the one that clinched Alec's place on my favorite actor's list. Professor Marcus is such a great character :).

Anyways, welcome! And I hope you enjoy your time here :).
